"I'm not sure he's that interested in politics," Rep. Davis said. "I'm not sure he has that drive and desire in him."

Harold Ford, Jr. doesn't have "drive and desire"?

Lincoln, you can say a lot of things about Harold but Brother, I've seen very few people on this planet with more drive and desire.

Lincoln Davis out's himself as a candidate for governor in 2010.

And ask them what happened to the lighting proposal so that we could see our stars again...or at least keep what's left.

While quite a number of folks are adding comments (also called "replies") to the original posts of others, relatively few are starting "front-page" threads like this one themselves. Since it is not difficult to do, here are some directions to help you along.

I'm not sure what to make of this map that shows poverty rates by county and Congressional District. We're not poor but we aren't doing all that awesome, either.

Rockwood plant due for $23 million overhaul by maker of carbon fibers.

First it was Great Lakes Carbon and it got bought. Then it was Fortafil and it got bought. Then it was Akzo-Fortafil and it got bought.

Now it's ToHo Tenax.

I've used a lot of carbon fiber in kayaks and canoes and paddles, and it's great stuff. The plant is a marvel and now it's going to get even more marvelous.

Just in time for National Fire Safety Month, here's a free print in honor of our volunteers titled "Roane County Night Fire: Still More to Do (2007)," a tribute to firefighters and volunteers in all endeavors. Our volunteers are all "10"s!

The mixed-media print is entered in the Kingston Country Fair ((link...)). There is a lot going on this weekend, but try and get over to the fair at Fort Southwest Point if you can!

Mayor Farmer was kind enough to respond to an email I sent by getting a few documents together for us. Unfortunately, they are on paper and not in digital form (Mayor Farmer is working on that problem) so I'll have to excerpt them bit by bit.

I like Ina Hughes. She manages to combine oil and water in such a nice way.

That's the beauty of a little cleansing soap when applying rational thought to religion.

I wonder if we'll see the usual suspects come out against Ina Hughes on the letter signs? I remember the one condemning Harry Potter, saying, "God is against witchcraft" and wondered if anyone told them it was a work of fiction.

Knox County loves its Commissioners. It's better than TV...Wait? I guess it IS TV since their trial was televised, just like all the commission meetings except for that part in the hallways that got them in trouble.

The discussion has taken an interesting turn at KnoxViews.

See how much fun we could be having if our Commission would just do something behind closed doors or out in the hall or at McDonalds on Saturday morning or something? But no...they never do things like that.

The lack of accessibility of our County Commissioners has been mentioned previously in this forum. I had a need to contact each of our cmmissioners and spent too much time figuring out how to do it. I thought I might share my results with the group:

After the experience with the brutal heat of early August, the Knox County School Board has moved the start of school to one week later.

What's wrong with the way it was when I was a kid? We got out of school on Memorial Day weekend and went back after labor day. I know things have changed but would it be that difficult to start Roane County Schools a bit later?

From the Roane County news...

Tommy says the guy was hiding in the bushes...The guy says nothing of the sort, he was accompanying Tommy's ex wife to get her kids. The wife says Tommy ran after the guy and beat him up...Tommy says the guy was trespassing...

I love Roane County!

And thanks to the RCNews for going online with "Broken" news as it breaks.

We all have our disagreements with President Bush. Immigration, U.S. Attorney firings, Iraq , Darfur , etc., are all hot topics these days. The following "speech" was written recently by an ordinary Maineiac [a resident of the People's Republic of Maine ]. While satirical in nature, all satire must have a basis in fact to be effective. This is an excellent piece by a person who does notwrite for a living.

We went to Misael's for lunch today and were pleasantly rewarded with a fine meal with a side of fresh air. (and yes, I had souvlaki)

One thing I noticed was that he had about twice the normal crowd, including a man and woman with a toddler and a baby.

There were smokers in the room but they were very respectful and joked about the situation.

I saw an old friend working at his current job yesterday. He used to work for my company and was as good as it gets, as an employee. He was the go-to guy when I needed some manufacturing problem ironed out on the production floor. He could think about what I was describing and help solve problems.

Often I would describe something and give him a rough sketch and he would come back in a few hours with a rough prototype. Then we would kick it around together and he'd come back again with the next version, and so on until things were working smoothly on the factory floor.

My friend is still a great employee but now... He herds grocery carts.

There's always two ways of looking at things, although I'm often accused of third and forth ways that other people don't get...But today is Fresh Air day in Tennessee's restaurants, or put another way, Non-Smoker Liberation Day.

The price of taking your family to Cracker Barrel, or where ever, won't be forcing them to share in the self destructive habits of others.

As of today, October 1, 2007, smoking is not permitted in most indoor public places.

Here's a bargain. Three from Hillary... enjoy the, ummm... "wisdom"!

"God bless the America we are trying to create."

"I'm not going to have some reporters pawing through our papers. We are the president."

Thought it might be of interest what one of our younger generation is thinking about our socio-economic situation. This is from one of my 13 grandkids (the only one that is not brain-dead). He is now a senior at UT and his next move will probably be Med. School if he doesn't get waylaid into politics.
