"Scientists are reporting for the first time that the use of weed killers in farmers' fields boosts the nutritional value of an important food a crop. Application of two common herbicides to several varieties of sweet corn significantly increased the amount of key nutrients termed carotenoids in the corn kernels, according to a new study."

Gene Thurman, former Principal of Harriman High School, died this morning after a prolonged illness. Thurman was involved in educational affairs and community affairs for most of his life, and leaves a legacy of many, many HS graduates who knew and respected him. His legacy also includes a community better for his involvement. That's hard to beat.
No info in arrangements as of now.

Randy - we were talking about a potential way for the LTRC to keep themselves on track and us informed by use of a simple living document for their agenda and reporting. I can't find a way to attache it in a REPLY on an established thread. I think making a new blog entry is the way to do it. So try this one on for size. See what you think.

Well, seems like some folks in Singapore have worked out a reasonable reastion to pull CO2 out of the air and us it to make a useful organic product. A new twist to recycling the atmosphere in favor of sustainability. Produces methanol, the simplest alcohol, which is useful in many chemical processes and as a solvent.

Since several comments on another thread that theoretically is about the Houstons and their saga have changed subject matter, and have moved into the arena of relationship between LEOs, specifically the Sheriff, and the communities, I thought a discussion on those issues would better be served by having a thread actually named about the subject of discussion.

Senate boosts wilderness protection across US By MATTHEW DALY, Associated Press Writer
Sun Jan 11, 3:55 pm ET
WASHINGTON - In a rare Sunday session, the Senate advanced legislation that would set aside more than 2 million acres in nine states as wilderness. Majority Democrats assembled more than enough votes to overcome GOP stalling tactics in an early showdown for the new Congress.

Nobody is unaffected by healthcare issues. We have read, in some other commentary on this forum, about what the new Obama-led, Democrat-controlled government may or may not do with regard to healthcare. Are we becoming neo-socialists? Will we get the mess that the UK has, where people wait until their cancer is incurable to get a definitive diagnosis and staging? Is the government the answer to all mankind's needs?

.. of some of this political garbage... both parties are making so many deplorable ads...
This quote by George Orwell puts it right neatly:
"Political language -- and with variations this is true of all political parties, from Conservatives to Anarchists -- is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind."
George Orwell, "Politics and the English Language", 1946
