But I could be wrong. I'm stupid and usually am wrong about liking this kind of thing, cause I usually just don't get it, but anyway...

Let me not be understood as saying that there are no bad laws, nor that grievances may not arise for the redress of which no legal provisions have been made. I mean to say no such thing. But I do mean to say that although bad laws, if they exist, should be repealed as soon as possible, still, while they continue in force, for the sake of example they should be religiously observed.

From another Roane County blog ((link...))
"Becky Ruppe, County Executive of Morgan County , has announced her bid
for the open senate seat that will be left from Tommy Kilby's vacancy.
According to a press release, Ruppe has the endorsement of Lincoln
Davis, Tommy Kilby and Dennis Ferguson."

I went to see a local production at a local theatre. "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" is now showing in the theatre at Roane State.
It's a nice theatre, with plenty of capacity, a good stage and technical outfitting. Above all, it's a good show with a good cast, well done, and it's good fun.

Well, I found something that I can offer that will probably even appeal to the real progressives here (who, I don't believe, think I'm one of them, but that's OK). [I'm grinning, kids!]
Are we in danger of losing patriotism in favor of nationalism?

Well, the Founding Fathers all had strong backgrounds in the classics. They KNEW what had made governments rise and fall throughout history. They knew WHY republics are as fragile as they are glorious. They knew that the art of politics involved getting one's hands dirty - in the sense of digging in, not in the sense of corruption.

This is a really neat place. I knew it was there, but when I went to really look at it, I was impressed by how very nicely it was executed. The fountain, the memorial, seats around it for convenience of those who wish to sit and linger in their memories... all wonderful.
I'll have some other pics soon, if this one works, of more in the park. There is also going to be another memorial for some very worthy individuals. More pics will be in image gallery soon.
This park, overlooking the Emory River, is one jewel in the crown of Roane County.

Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedy.

Continued...Both from H.L. Mencken.
Hope it generates some thoughts, maybe even comments.
"The average man does not get pleasure out of an idea because he thinks it is true; he thinks it is true because he gets pleasure out of it."
"The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule."

"Under democracy, one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule - and both commonly succeed, and are right."
H.L. Mencken was a neat guy. Helps keep folks thinking. Consider this quote.
To me it should work to keep strong holders of political opinion on any part of the spectrum a bit more "honest." It is such a temptation to be so zealous in promoting those whose beliefs closely parallel our own that we get to the point of imputing bad things and dishonorable motives to those who do not see it the same way.

It seems to be a site mainly aimed at finding fault with any- and everything the government of Roane County does, has done, or considers doing. Perhaps "progressive" means "antagonistic to the government that exists because it exists."
NOW - I'll also venture that my reaction may be premature, and I'll hasten to add that I'm anxious to stay here a while to see if that may not, in fact, be the case. If so, I'll welcome it. Perhaps the key is more people adding their participation to the site here.
