Our neighbors in this all-volunteer IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit not only fight our fires but also provide our emergency medical services. Last year they helped 430 individuals with medical emergencies and fires.

West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual "elegant junk" yard 'sale' at Station 1 on Pumphouse Road near Rockwood on May 3, 4, and 5 (Thursday through Saturday) from 8:00 AM on Thursday (7:00 AM Friday and Saturday) all day until dark.

Our neighbors in this all-volunteer IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit not only fight our fires but also provide our emergency medical services. Last year they went out on 269 calls, including 150 EMT/medical calls, and on 28 mutual aid calls helping other fire departments.

When you change your clocks this weekend, be sure to check your smoke alarms as well. Also, change the batteries in all alarms with 9V batteries.

West Roane VFD ((link...)) reminds us that it's that time again! When you change your clock for Daylight Savings Time, remember to change your 9V batteries too.
The 10-year lithium batteries do not need to be changed so often, but like all smoke alarm batteries, they should be checked monthly just in case. And, "if your smoke alarm was installed more than 10 years ago, it needs to be replaced" (Source: USFA).

Burning permits are required until May 15, although even if you have one it is a good idea not to burn this weekend ((link...)). "Escaped debris burns are the leading cause of wildfire." -- TN Dept. of Forestry

We had quite a storm here yesterday, although we fared better than some other counties. However, that did not keep the wonderful volunteers at West Roane County VFD from being busy.
Before the storm hit us, the National Weather Service called Chief Charlie Redwine and asked him to mobilize the volunteers to be on standby in case of storm emergencies.
Next, Chief Redwine beeped the firefighters and First Responders and called them to report for duty at Station No. 1. About 30 volunteers left their work and families and responded to his call.
