Deja Poo

Well, not actually, although Charlie has a deja poo cartoon. I love this site. I gave a certain Ex Tenn. state Dem chairman a signed print of a Charlie Fincher cartoon that showed a certain ex Senator (doctor) having his chain jerked by a certain current president of the USA.

Brother,

I read what they said and I read what you said...

And I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

If it ain't so...well ok, but...

If it is, own up to it. Say you're human and go get help.

I'll keep an open mind for now.

Your penance is...

Don't do it again?

A company car is usually supposed to be for company business. If you have access to one and use it for personal business, it becomes compensation. There are IRS implications when we start talking about compensation, as in "you pay income tax on it."

When the "company" is Roane County Government, the citizens of the County have a right to expect that somebody is paying close attention to where the money goes. Vehicles cost money for every mile they are driven. When someone drives a County vehicle to his child's ballgame, they are spending your tax money. If they went two miles, they spent about a dollar of your tax money. If they went to Knoxville...Well you get the idea.

So why don't the folks responsible for watching your tax money tighten up?

Damone Lawrence has the line of the week:

Asking the Roane County Commission's personnel committee if a countywide vehicle-use policy is needed was like asking a group of first-graders if they wanted to give up recess.

I've experienced the same spring mating run on Roane County's own Emory river canoing with my kids. The fish are much bigger than you think, with the record from Watts Bar lake being around 40 pounds, as I remember.

This is from an old Heartland series and has a guest appearance by Dr. Etnier, the person who described the famouse snail darter to science.

Buffalo run on Citico Creek

highspeed is definitely a plus for this.

Update: My accuser didn't show up in court. Instead of dismissing the ticket, the good judge rescheduled my court date. Somehow this doesn't seem fair.

Like a lot of families in our area, we will have an empty nest by suppertime. We're roadtripping our youngest and coming back without him.

This one is headed to East Tennessee State University along with any number of other Roane County highschool graduates, and others who will go off to other schools.

Good luck to all!

To the Students who face a growing indepence and responsibility...

And to the parents who let them go.

Cheers to the class of 2007!

May you become the Class of 2011!

Rumor has it that the County Executive's Office is wanting to set up a Roane County Educational Foundation...This seems like a good idea for going after pockets of money and grants...Anyone know more details about how this would work? I know they have done this in other county's.

I got busted for running a traffic light in Rockwood. I absolutely didn't think I ran stretched or whatever violated any traffic lights. The next day I went and timed the light...3 seconds yellow. That's not correct. The recommended Yellow timing is four seconds. Several mornings I timed several of the Rockwood lights at three seconds. Then...

They were changed. Now they are four seconds plus. I go to court on Friday.

So who sets the timing on traffic lights?

I just wandered by the Roane Heritage Society in the old Roane County Courthouse in Kingston.

What a treasure. Artifacts of every sort, including a ceremonial mask made of conch shell.

The pictures of the old Paddle wheelers are worth the trip and there was old man Rockwood, who started the iron mill and got a town named after him.

I wonder if Roane County has more traffic lights per capita than any other place on earth?

As I worked my way through Rockwood this morning I wondered why a street that is only two blocks long has a traffic light. Highway 70 crosses this entire country but it stops in Rockwood every 30 seconds or so just so people who drive those two blocks can cross.

There used to be 7 traffic lights to get through Rockwood and now there're at least 9, 10 if you count the one on 27 to get to Roane State Community College. We've got lights at Walmarts and grocery stores and I figure we only need about half the ones we have now.

Anyway, I decided that we may have to have some sort of contest to determine the most useless traffic light in Roane County.

Anybody have a candidate they want to campaign for?

I recently had a friend of mine tell me the story of not being able to get a straight answer from the School System about the situations regarding the Air Conditioning at Kingston Elementary School. He was extremely upset that he could'nt find out if his child was in a situation that was healthy and acceptable for a youngster to be subjected. I dont blame him. I read articles in the paper about how bad the School system was not to have enough air conditioners, or not to have a plan to fix this problem. I read letters to the editor about kids burning up and how we should let them out early...All of this sounded extremely incompetent until I began to analyze the true problem...

Anybody have the latest on Broadband Service for the "rest" of Roane County?

I saw something about Harriman reviewing their cable contract. Is enhanced broadband service with better distribution and coverage going to be included in that?

I'm not sure whether RoaneViews is a Sister, Brother, or Cousin Blog of KnowViews.com but we sure owe the proprietor for making this one happen.

And while RoaneViews is all about Roane County, some things are universal, like sending the kids off to college...Some of them for the first time.

So here's what folks think is important to tell an incoming Freshman:

I am a blogger "newbie", but I wish to help set the tone for this site to be thoughtful, so I am going to "steal" my first post. I know we think most times Corporate America is at the heart of what is wrong with our country, but every once in a while their marketing departments come up with little gems to reflect upon. This comes from an Apple Computer ad in the 1990's:

There's so much to talk about.

Do we start with the Jail situation? The one where the county fathers decided that we can't give the schools any money this year because we have to build a Taj MaJail for our criminals?

Or do we start with the financial straights we are left with in this County? The reserve fund got spent in the last administration and it doesn't look like the new folks have a good handle on where the money comes from or goes to.

Our schools deserve a hard look. We actually produce a fair number of scholars for the sad shape our facilities are in, but why do they keep the bathrooms in the highschool locked so the kids can't get in them? Is that weird or what?

Drive around the county and you see some really beautiful sights as long as you don't pay too much attention to the roads you're driving on.

Then there's the Houstons. I had always figured that Rocky and Leon should get off on the most serious charges. That was the word on the street, anyway. Now we see the Judge coming around to the same point of view.

So what's it going to be?

you folks get your chance to start the first thread but be thoughtful and be nice.

If nothing happens I'll throw out the first thread but you get your chance...Go for it!
