Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) scientist Ashok Gadgil is developing a cheap and effective way to provide safe drinking water to 60 million Bangladeshis who live under the specter of arsenic poisoning. His idea is to create arsenic filters from coal ash, the fine gray powder that piles up at the bottom of furnaces at all coal-fired power stations, waiting to be discarded.

I was reminded of the upcoming concert while listening to the Phil Williams show yesterday. His guest was 17-year-old Emery Francis and her mother. Phil was blown away with Emery's "House of the Rising Sun" performance! Emery told Phil that she was uncertain whether or not she would continue to pursue music as a singer, writer, or teacher. Whatever she decides, she will continue to entertain us in the interim.
EmiSunshine will be new to the Princess stage, but this will be Emery's third time performing there. She first appeared in, and won, the Princess Foundation's First Annual Multi-County Talent Show; performing "House of the Rising Sun", and again opening for 2Steel Girls in June of this year!

Most recently she was on NBC's Today Show, proving that she is going somewhere fast!
On November 7th, she will show her stuff on the Princess stage!

Last Saturday was the next to last edition of the Cruisin' Harriman for 2014, and to say it was hot would be an understatement!
Almost brutal to an "over the hill fat boy" like myself. I walked up Roane Street to the firetruck blocking Roane Street on the west end, and back down to the cars parked in front of the old Miller and Brewer Building (about 3 blocks), and was drenched! It was a two-shower day!

The Three Soldiers (also known as The Three Servicemen) is a bronze statue on the Washington, DC National Mall commemorating the Vietnam War. It was created and designed to complement the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, by adding a more traditional component to the Memorial.
A replica, sculpted by Greg Horak of Harriman, now stands in Riverfront Park in Harriman, Tennessee. It is believed to be the largest replica of the memorial in the state, if not anywhere outside DC.
