Last Saturday was the next to last edition of the Cruisin' Harriman for 2014, and to say it was hot would be an understatement!

Almost brutal to an "over the hill fat boy" like myself. I walked up Roane Street to the firetruck blocking Roane Street on the west end, and back down to the cars parked in front of the old Miller and Brewer Building (about 3 blocks), and was drenched! It was a two-shower day!

Yes, August is almost here and the "Cruisin'" will stop for this year, but I'm afraid we're almost to the end of the car shows. When it gets this hot attendance is low, even the vendors were missing this round, and fewer cars come; and some come but leave early. It's just too hot to sit on Roane Street, or any street.

I'm hoping that interest is waning only because of the heat, but only time will tell. Spring will come and with it cooler weather, so maybe the crowds and vendors will return.

I wish organizers would consider a split season, April-June and September-November, for instance. The shows are interesting and the cars are top quality for the most part, so I would sure miss them.

I've seen where several towns hold them under trees, IN THE SHADE! So what about using Riverfront Park as a location...under the trees not out in the field?

How are the other towns doing with their shows? I don't make Rockwood's often, but would go more if Harriman's ended.

I went to the Oak Ridge show, during the Secret City Festival, and I felt like Harriman had'em beat on quality cars, and maybe I didn't stay long enough, but there were fewer cars there than was in Harriman this past Saturday.

So, I hoping more of Roane County will go down on August 9th and support this activity...either by looking or showing off your own pride and joy! The '51 Crown Vic, above, is only one of the gorgeous cars that show up there!
