Have you seen the billboard near I-40 exit 364 (Hwy. 321/Melton Hill Dam and I-40/I-75 split)? It says, "America or Obama / You can't have both / Paid for by the Roane County Tea Party."

Area Democrats are asking for donations to provide a countering billboard in the same area (the sign that did have a Julia Hurley ad).

What has been suggested is a board saying 'Oh, Yes We Can' (with the Obama logo in the bottom half of the 'O'). The party needs to know ASAP to take advantage of the vacant billboard and to get it there for the time period till the election.

Roane and Loudon County Democrats are joining together on this, and are asking several other neighboring counties to join in. This is a $2900 project. Alone, no one county party can afford the price. But together we could reach the amount.

Please make your check to RCDP.
Please note at bottom "Billboard.' That way there is no confusion about it being candidate money.

Jack McNew (candidate for District 32) and Bob Cowan (Roane County Chair) began this idea and have done the work for it.

I guess the purpose of the

I guess the purpose of the Democratic billboard is to show that not everybody in Roane County is gullible enough to fall for tea party propaganda.

My 1%

I'm sending $29.

Negative image

Having a tea party sign "represent" Roane County to passersby seems, well, bad for business.

We're sending about 1% too. :)

America For Obama

How much to buy an " F "?

(We can trade in a " 't ")

We're in for 2%.

We're in for 2%.

Counter Sign Project CANCELLED

A letter from Dixie Damm:

"The best-laid plans of mice and men / Often go awry"

Bob Cowan, the chair of the Roane County Democratic Party, just phoned me. He has withdrawn the billboard project.<!--break-->

Yes, it still is an irritation, but Bob has a huge picnic to handle and does not have the time that this has come to require.

We need to file with the FEC, and now there is a debate over what should be said on our responding billboard, too much for the time period. Bottom line: no billboard from Roane Co.

However, we are looking into the filing a complaint with the FEC because the T-baggers did not file with the FEC! So we might have the last laugh anyway. I will keep you on my list of folks to be notified of what the 'rest of the story is.'

Please let Bob Cowan know how you want your donation to be handled.

Bob will shred it. He will re-send it to you. He will do what you want. You may email him at procraft18 @ aol.com. He is hoping you will use this donation to some good Democratic purpose or your district TN Candidate. We collected over $1700--in 3 days. That is a powerful statement.

The R's have been gaining ground this way. They get their voters angry and get both money and votes. Emotions are what drive us!

So I am asking you to stay driven, driven enough to help your local candidate and your local Party. Of course. I am speaking mostly to the choir! But a few of you are less active. The local Party is not very glamorous and without adequate help it is even less glamorous (unable to do all things well).

The local Party is the first step of Political Action. It is where all the above ideas begin.

I surely understand Bob Cowan not being able to do both the billboard problem and a Labor Day Picnic!

With that much money

With that much money collected maybe we can get some other folks to handle the BB project.

WC

WC,

I only wish I could help! August is a really busy month at the fire department. :(
