Today I received a fundraising call, purportedly from the "Fraternal Order of Police - Tennessee State Lodge - Armes-Shubert Memorial." While the caller was on the phone, I looked them up. Guidestar ((link...)) didn't have them listed, but the Tennessee Department of State ((link...)) did.

Last fiscal year this Rockwood group spent a whopping 69% of their income on fundraising and only 20% on their charity programs.

I support our law enforcement officials, but questionable police "charities" are a shame.

I told the caller that even if I ever gave to telemarketers--which I don't--there are better, more efficient local charities that need our support, for example the West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department ((link...)).
