Adkissor Cemmetary Slide2.JPG

A post on lifeonswanpond's blog (link...) moved me to make some overlays. (link...) The dot for the Adkisson cemetery seems to be at the equipment park on what EPA is calling the Berkshire slough.
In San Francisco, there are breakwaters in the ocean made of headstones of people who either did not have families or whose families did not have the money to move them to new cemeteries southwest of the city. The lands are now parks or in one case a college campus. I was startled to see that this was acceptable practice. I have seen documentation of "moved" cemeteries while researching TVA's history. I don't know what happened to the bodies in either case. I am surprised to see TVA behaving much as it did the thirties. Back then, there was cause for eminent domain to build the lakes, but today I would hope for them to behave in a more sensitive way. I am surprised to see the equipment park where the map places the cemetery. It is hard to imagine that the grave makers are protected under the crushed stone and will be restored after the stone is removed. I suppose it is possible that the dot on the map is only an approximate location and the grove of trees is where the cemetery is.

A better idea

Call the TVA office in Kingston and request one of the employees there to meet you at the site you are referring to. They will show you the grave site and then you will know for certain. You won't have to imagine were it is. I think you will find it very easily as it is surrounded by a bright orange plastic web barrier and unmolested.

Your word is good

Mr. Johnson,
Thank you!
Your word is good. Someone who has been there is a thousand times more valuable than speculation...
I take back what I said about TVA!
Respectfully,
Charlie

There has been a phone call

There has been a phone call put in for about 3 days now with no return call. And the people I talked to seemed not to know about any grave yard.

Try this person

Ask for Mr. Earl Deskins, if he is still at the Kingston office. He will be very helpful. If he is not there ask to meet someone at the site and enter the clump of trees beside the equipment parking area. Remember to be respectful as this is a burial site. The upper portion of the marker is broken, and leaning to the side, which is an old mishap. This is the only known grave at the site.

From the EPA Kingston TVA website

Thanks to Leo, the EPA On Site Coordinator (OSC)and staff we have these recent photos. One is from a recent helocopter set (link...) and the other is a crop from the latest aerial. (link...)
