Just discovered that the Foxfire browser by Mozilla has a built in spell check that works when typing blogs and comments on this and other sites. As you, type misspelled words are highlighted. Simply right click and a list of possible corrections comes up.
If you download and install Foxfire it doesn't have to be you default browser. Also, during install you have the option of importing your passwords and favorite sites from Explorer.
Check it out: Foxfire Download site (link...)
Also, Foxfire appears to be much faster than Explorer.

There is a low tech solution also
It is called "proofreading." After one writes their post, they have two options, one of which is called Preview Comment. It is obvious from some of the mangled language and spelling that not a lot of people read over their post to see if it makes sense.
This is a public forum that anybody with a computer can read. Take pride in your comments and avoid coming across as "mangled language hillbilly rambling." People won't be as likely to dismiss your comments as having come from a nitwit. Thank you.

My problem is proofing
My problem is proofing my own posts. I often see what I know I meant to say not what I actually wrote. In effect even after several proofs there are still ommissions, transposissions, and misspellings. Especially using my iPhone like now.
Proofreading your own
Proofreading your own writing is one of the hardest things to do exactly for that reason. Your brain registers what you "want" to see a lot of times instead of what your eyes really "see".
Well,
LOC posted that he read it aloud to his dog. His dog barked and wagged its tail. proof enough! :>)
Seriously though-read it slowly and out loud to learn how to "accurately" proofread. (provided that you are using a full-sized screen) Eventually, one can learn to actually see what is written, and not what one "thinks" is written. Read it aloud to your spouse, who not being the author will be much more objective.
And this brings me to another point. In the past you have accused me of reading between the lines, instead of the lines themselves. By your own admission above,
Truly the mind can play tricks on the unsuspecting.

I thought the topic was
I thought the topic was about spell checking. Proofreading for spelling errors was what I was referring to.
You say, "Truly the mind can play tricks on the unsuspecting."
I say, "It sure can. Especially when you are filled with paranoia."
So I guess you didn't
So I guess you didn't proofread your post? You'd think if you were going to be critical of other posters writing skills you wouldn't post something with errors telling people how to fix errors. Is that irony? I never can keep that one straight. :-)
Offer of possible help
Proofing your own work is indeed difficult.
I volunteer for an online grassroots charity a few times a week, proofing and editing their emails to users and their new action items on their website.
If someone here feels that spelling, punctuation, and grammar are getting in the way of his or her message, I would be happy to help out, time permitting. Just send me a private message with your draft text.
I can offer no guarantee--after all, I might be busy or tired--but perhaps could be of some help on occasion.
Communicating effectively online can be a challenge. Remember, however, that you are not alone. :)
