Hi All,
Yesterday we learned that independent water sampling data from the Clinch and Tennessee rivers were sent to TDEC and EPA. This data was taken for litigation purposes but then released to the regulatory agencies due to its significance for public health and safety.
A PDF of the letter from the law firm to TDEC and EPA as well as the water sample results and data can be found on the link below.
The link also includes a document prepared by United Mountain Defense that outlines all the heavy metal data that exceeded Tennessee’s water quality standards for these tests.
I would love to hear what other scientist have to say about the significance of this data.
Thanks,
Bonnie Swinford

news article about the water samples

Well, I'm sure to get beat
Well, I'm sure to get beat up here but... saying, "taken by qualified consultants" and "analyzed by a certified laboratory in Tennessee", just doesn't cut it with me when making an announcement of that importance. If you can't name names you should not put out the information as being factual. If feel, as a resident of this community, that we have enough miss-information and unverified rumors as it is.
Unless I'm missing something I could just as easily made up the letter and the spreadsheet with the data. I see nothing official about it.
If I am wrong about what I saw, I apologize in advance.
CC, I accept the data
I've looked at a lotof data and I think it's all pretty good no matter who took it and who did the testing. What I've found is seerious discrepancies in methodology when there is disagreement. For instance, neither TVA nor TDEC took water samples on May 4 when the Emory was in flood. That is a serious breach in earning the public trust.
WC, I'm not going to try to
WC, I'm not going to try to dispute the data. That is not my field and is not really my complaint. Many times I have heard you say on this forum, if you can't supply an independent link to back up what you say you should not say it. Providing a link to your own data that can not be independently verified falls into that category.
I'm not trying to start an argument between members here. I'm just stating what I got out of the original post to this thread. Others here may more than welcome that type of information, which is vague and does not cite the source, but I have no use for it unless it can be verified.
I'll agree with that
I can accept keeping the sampler's name out of it but the testing lab should certainly be named.
Wonder What Heavy Metals Are In Your Systems Now
I wonder if any of you wonder what heavy metals are now in your systems. I wondered after the disaster and I found out. All of you are breathing this stuff. It is coming out of me in PPT (Parts Per Trillion). That is small enough to come through the pores of the skin in a hand or foot detox bath. It comes out naked to the eye but bonds together after about 15 minutes into the bath and is seen as strips of black in the water. Sometimes my detox baths smell like keys on a key chain. In other words the bath water contents smells like metal. Remember all of you are breathing this stuff and absorbing it into your bodies. Going through heavy metal detox is horrible in itself, but at least it is coming out of me.
Everyone in that area needs to get heavy metal testing, but not by TVA. TVA and their associates (ORAU and Vanderbilt Medical) will find nothing of course. They are not to be trusted. Ask UMD for help to find a Laboratory that can do this independent of TVA.
I don't know how many of you
I don't know how many of you were at the LTRC meeting Wed. and got to see my presentation. But I have lost total faith in TDEC! We have certified test results by TDEC showing people that live on Swan Pond Rd. have Fly Ash in their home. And when I contacted TDEC they stated the testing info had been filed due to the fact they could not tell if the fly ash was there before or after Dec. 22nd 2008 My question is why does it matter? Before or after? So TDEC stated to me that they only go by their air monitors in the area if they show something they will take action. But if they come to your home and show a lot of Fly Ash in your home it is dismissed because no air monitors are detecting anything. They (TDEC) also stated that the 1970's standards that were set up on fugitive dust is what they have to follow. And the standards are: If TDEC observes for longer than 5 minutes at one time dust blowing across property lines action will be taken. Give me a break! This is what TDEC seriously told me!

I love it when people are so
I love it when people are so quick to discount the failures in sampling protocol, chain of custody, and laboratory procedures when the data supports their cause.
I was involved in a court case involving lead contamination in a community many years ago. Citizens and environmental groups came up with data with about this much back up, somebody took the sample somewhere over there the other day and we had it analyzed. The contaminate in question had a very specific finger print of other components and the sample was way out. My data blew theirs away in court, in a rational forum, but in the public eye they had proven their case.
I'm just saying be careful where your data comes from no matter which side your on.
TDEC took our samples.
TDEC took our samples.

I Don't Have Any Problems With The Press Release
Obviously, this data has been obtained to facilitate litigation, and I'm sure the labs, samplers, methodology, etc will be presented at trial. The law firm has no obligation to release specific information to the public, but only to the opposing parties through discoveries. This press release was intended to inform the public so they can protect themselves. The point was well taken by me and I have no qualms regarding the who's or how's or why's. The frightening thing is this data is factual and TDEC, EPA, and TVA are withholding this information from the public. People are dragging their kids through this contaminated water and its really a sad situation.
On a comical note. The City finally posted the warning sign at the Ladd Landing launch ramp. While I was standing their reading it I noticed that the adjacent inlet was covered in ash or some type of ash byproduct that I simply like to call contamination. I wonder if it has dawned on the City to post a similar warning at the 58 Landing, Gravel Pit, City Park, and Southwest Point since their is visible surface contamination all along the waterfront. Take a quick stroll along the walking trail...its hard to miss.
Warning SIgns at places other than Ladd Landing
I have all but given up on this issue. I have gone over this with the city administration.
The offical line at this time is that Watts Bar Lake in Kingston is safe except at Ladd Landing Park.
