Yet another bad bill from Representative McCord and Senator Lowe Finney

Here's another bill we just spotted. (link...)

This bill would say that if a person or industry (they're people too) is in compliance with their permit, they cannot be sued for nuisance.

This is of particular interest to you folks out there because the Kingston plant was in compliance with their permit before the wall came down. They only had to test for pH and total suspended solids. So if a heavy metals issue came up before the spill and folks discovered that they were harmed by the discharge of the pond water, there would be no recourse to sue TVA.

This bill is in the House Judicial committee. The fiscal note is not significant, so this one could get out of committee. Let's not let this happen. We've got friends with the trial attorneys but we need to show our disapproval.

I don't see your house representatives on this list, but you need to call in and tell them that this bill effects you badly. Definitely let the chair know your feelings about this bill as well as the sponsors.

Sen. Finney is a good guy. I don't know how he got involved in this, but he needs to know that this is a bad bill.

You guys got the selenium bill on the run. Now, let's get to this one!

I wish the current Tennessee legislature didn't seem so much like a smaller version of W's time in office. Bad news and silliness has been coming out of Nashville on an almost daily basis. Wasn't 8 long years of that enough?

Thanks for being the point person in the legislature on this, Renee. Roane County owes you and your staff a debt of gratitude for all your hard work.

I know you've been flying around the country and testifying before Congressional committees and still keeping up with what's happening at home. When it comes time to raise funds for the Tennessee Clean Water Network, Roane County will have to dig deep and look under the couch cushions.

We really appreciate you guys. There are a lot of people around here who have a different view of environmental groups and their value to the greater community now.

We're all environmetalists now.

Diddo, Steve, Tennessee Clean Water Network is doing fabulous work to protect our waterways and I hope Roane County devotes support thru attendance of TCWN programs thru attendance and financial support.

Renee did a fabulous job support our community, as well as others, during the recent Washington DC hearings. Thank you, Renee and Tennessee Clean Water Network.
