Given the family's wishes, probably absolutely right...
Given the expressed wished of the family of the murdered officer, it probably actually is the best resolution concerning Ms Hyatte. I think perhaps had the family felt otherwise, it might not have been the best choice. Now comes the trial for the "mastermind."
