We want to thank the kind volunteers at West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department ((link...)), and also RoaneViews' WhitesCreek and the fine folks at Rockwood Electric. We are truly blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful neighbors and friends. Here is what happened.

Yesterday some trees fell down across our road, blocking our car and taking out both the electricity and our phone service. Cell phones don't work here. In addition, we have age and health issues and are not physically up to hiking out. Even our satellite internet access went out, although after a while we were able to get that going briefly on battery power.

AT&T's online repair reporting system kept us burning batteries for a long time, but at the end apologized and said that we would have to call after all.

We couldn't find an online method of reporting an electrical outage. Finally we found an email address for the REU office but it was right at closing time.

So we were stuck here, with poor health, no heat, no cooking facilities, no oxygen concentrator, and no way to report the problems.

While we still had Internet access, I emailed a few volunteers in the West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department, as well as WhitesCreek. The response was amazing. They reported our problems and some volunteers even stopped by to see how we were. In just a few hours we had electricity again.

We are indeed truly fortunate to be surrounded by such wonderful neighbors and friends. Thank you all again.
