We'll be in our temporary space which is right next door toward Food City.
Hopefully the construction projects will be finished before our next show.

Sam Lewis will be at Market Street tomorrow night. We have plenty of seats left so bring your friends to hear this artist while we can still get him. Sam has been touring with the Kenny Vaughn Trio and just opened for New Grass royalty, John Cowan, at the Shed. The buzz is growing for this guy and we expect him to "break through" any minute. His personal and touching songs are matched by a distinctive voice. We heard him tear up Market Street with Roy Orbison's "Crying" so we know it's true that he could work as a front man singing other folks songs, but he's chosen to go it the hard way and stay true to his own work.

Sam Lewis is one of the best singer songwriters around. His words are special. His voice is special. And we are really grateful that Sam can work us into his schedule. Check him out:

Now come on out and have some fun with us.

Social hour starts at 6. Bring a dish if you want to join the pot luck supper but feel free to do anything you want and come on out. The folks who get there just in time for the music are missing a good time with some great people.

Music starts at 7 and we'll send you home happy at 9:30 ish.

BYOB and BYO food, because we don't serve either.

Email me to let me know you're coming.

ABOUT OUR MUSIC SERIES

Music at Market Street combines our serious affection for singer songwriters, live performance of original music, and socializing with our friends and families. We started it up in the Spring of 2012 on a whim. The idea was to have a family friendly atmosphere where we could chat and visit, share food and adult beverages if we so choose, and listen to some of the best music in Tennessee. So far it's working. We meet new people every week and folks are now driving out from Knoxville and other far flung places to experience their favorite artists in a small room with great acoustics. The only complaint we ever hear is "Why didn't you tell me about this sooner?"

The people who play for us are very good. They write and record songs and are excellent musicians. We tend to be heavy on Americana genre but we recently had R&B virtuoso Jason Eskridge, so good music is good music. Most of our artists are suggested by the artists who have played at Market Street, on the theory that musicians know music. So far everyone has been better than good. We also pester artists we like after hearing them on stage at one venue or another and we try to get people you would have to go to the Bijou, Jammin' at Hippie Jack's music festival, or someplace like that to hear. They bring their CD's and other stuff for purchase. We pay artists all we can and, after expenses, donate any extra to charities we like. We take no money ourselves.

Directions

Market Street is located just to the left of Food City at Ladd Landing in Kingston. The official address is 1000 Ladd Landing Boulevard, Kingston, TN.

Take Exit 352 then left and go one half mile north (left off I 40 away from Kingston proper). Turn right into Ladd Landing at the 3 way stop and then the first left into the shopping center and there we are.

Ladds Landing

Go two hours early and shop at the store next to Market Street... have a good dinner, and hear great tunes.

Sam Lewis held still long enough to answer a few questions...

WC: We hear that you've been working on a lot of new songs. Is there a cd in the works?

Sam: I'm always chipping away at something, I guess they are still new if you haven't 'recorded' them, right? Hopefully we'll be back in the studio come summer. If not by then I may release some live performances. I'm recording all shows this year!

WC: The buzz around Knoxville has yet to die down about your show at Boyd's Jig and Reel with the Kenny Vaughan Trio. Are you doing more shows with the band?

Sam: Great!!! That was our first time visiting the good folks at Boyd's and we will most certainly be coming back if they'll have us again. Wonderful and patient audience - We could tell they'd had a long weekend but were not ready to go home to start the work week! That band is hot as the sun and it should be illegal that I get to share the same stage with them. Kenny Vaughan, JT Cure, and Derek Mixon are insanely talented and equally brilliant to work and travel with. Last year we played 30+ shows together; this year we are hoping to double it! We are really looking forward to our first appearance together at Jammin' at Hippie Jacks this Memorial weekend!

WC: You opened for John Cowan at the Shed. Now that the biker crowd knows about you do you feel safer and will you get a new tattoo?

SAM: What an honor it was to open for such royalty! How great is The Shed, really?! I love what Scott Maddox and his superb crew has put together out there. They all make you feel more special than you probably really are. I still can't get over their hospitality and I'm dying to get back there with the Kenny Vaughan Trio! ( literally just confirmed twin bill with Todd Snider in July at The Shed in Maryville, ssssshhhhh ;)

WC: After Market Street, of course, what is the favorite venue you've played?

SAM: Each venue is original in it's own right and even if it is fair to compare all the places there are to play it's simply impossible. That being said my favorite types of venues/festival/events are places like The Rudyard Kipling in Louisville, KY, The Down Home in Johnson City, TN and Jammin' At Hippie Jacks. Great rooms, audiences and vibe in these places and all alike. Still my favorite venue is the porch with family and friends who remember when I was inexperienced and really self conscience. They constantly praise my evolution and like the new stuff as much as the old stuff; it means a great deal to me.

WC: Are we going to hear any new songs this Friday at Market Street?

SAM: Yes, and I hope you all like them!
