"They're saying it's unsafe for the public, that it is a public safety hazard," Burgess said.
The treehouse includes winding stairs, a bell tower, a rambling maze of rooms and corners and at the center, a light-filled sanctuary that doubles as a chapel and a basketball court. Burgess said God inspired the design.
A public information officer with the State Fire Marshal's Office did not return a call for comment.
Natosha Carson of Crossville has started a petition on Link... to reopen the facility.
