The Hits Just Keep On Coming

Submitted by WhitesCreek on June 19, 2012 - 6:13am.

Let's be thankful:

There wasn't a car wreck as a result of DWV (Driving while videoing.

Julia has a goodly supply of expensive cars on a $19,000 a year salary.

Pepper gets to star in lots of news stories.

The Knox News Sentinel identified Julia as being from Lenoir City and not Roane County.

Can't Contact Hurley?

I find this amusing.

Hurley didn't return repeated calls and emails seeking comment Monday.

I thought she has always stated she can be reached easily? I guess when it is convenient for her?

Constituents

I think she indicates she can be easily reached by her constituents, phone or e-mail, I wouldn't think that applies to reporters on a slow news day. Seriously, this really isn't newsworthy...I'll go ahead and post it, but it really isn't worth the time.

Where are you going to post it?

Do you have a website or some other way we can read your posts, other than here? Just curious.

Julia's fb

ck out Julia's fb page for more comments from Chelsea (goes by another name on fb but has the same first letter in first name).

Change is a coming!

Chelsea,
Are you serious? Driving while videoing, despite her denial to reporters. Also, she reported she does this all the time and would continue to do so, to WVLT.

If your child did that to your dog, to your neighbors dog, or to a stranger's dog, would you find this as acceptable behavior?

The fact that she posted a video which she thought was humorous is one thing. The fact that it is our State Rep, who is typically considered a leader of the community (in most cases; certainly not this case), the fact that Julia Hurley had an opportunity to go to Nashville as an elected official and become a mentor to young people, including women who have had a difficult start in life due to teen pregnancy, Ms. Hurley surely has been a huge disappointment, due to PERSONAL BEHAVIOR.

Rep Hurley has been given the opportunity to be a positive role model yet she continues to be a huge disappointment....and, with supporters who continue to defend her childish actions as, well...it is her youthful attitude and over zealous energy, that story is worn out.

When one becomes an elected official, such is a honor and such should be treated with dignity, professionally & personally.

There is a continual error in personal judgement and behavior.

Regardless of your opinion of newsworthy status, she is a public figure and animal abusive behavior and driving while videoing, holding a dog out the window, totally distracted driving is NOT what our elected official should be presenting.

She is the one who has created her messy nest.

Done, time for a change.

Wasn't

Wasn't talking about the dog thing...that issue speaks for itself. I was referring to the being able to contact her stuff. If she responds to constituents that contact her in the accepted manner, she should and from several accounts she does respond. Now, responding to new organizations etc about non-legislative issues, regardless of how bizzare, is another issue.
BTW we have had our share of outrageous elected officials. Fortunately for them there was not a 24 hour news cycle and news traveled slowly.

Responsiveness

Chelsea, she is not responsive unless it is to her benefit. There are too many times she has been unavailable to meet with our County Commissioners and this is documented. Using the excuse that she is in legislative session is a good one but every single Commission meeting to be tied up in a meeting.

There are people who have called her and asked her questions, or asked her staff to have her return the call, and to no avail. These calls have come from non-profits seeking to help individuals needing her guidance, from democrats and republicans.

As far as my dislike for Rep Hurley, trust me, she earned it as I had no negative opinion until she quickly began her personal poor decisions publicly.

Further, I have watched her performances on the house floor beginning with the neckbrace episode continuing through to the Rx testing episode whereby Rep Hurley was down right RUDE to two house representatives, both democrats.

Yes, I am hard on her but I expect Representation of ALL the people, regardless of race, creed, party affiliation.

What does all this have to do with her readiness to respond to constituents, I guess it depends which side of the fence one sits as to whether or not Rep Hurley is responsive and such fence doesn't necessarily rule out constituents of the Republican party, not just the T-Party.

Further, it is not secret in our instant world of communication. For me, I am grateful for such technology. For public figures and politicians, it is not a secret all eyes are upon them.

scratch

Scratch the whole thing. I was referring to the "Hiding in her Legislative Office" post. The dog thing is stupid, but not earth shattering.
People will vote in the person deemed the best by the majority. I have called Rep. Hurley on about 3 occasions. I was always answered promptly and courteously.
I have also communicated with Mr. Calfee and personally know Mr. McNew. All have their pros and cons.

Easily reachable?

Her open door policy must only apply to social media outlets. I recently emailed both her and Senator Yager about a concern I have applying to legislature under Title 36. It has been over a month and I have yet to receive a reply from either one. So never mind representation. I guess I will go about trying to better the world the old fashioned way and start a petition. I really thought that things might be a little more efficient than that these days, what with email, Facebook, etc. Silly me.

I've sent emails to Ken

I've sent emails to Ken Yager but the response has been "Thank You for your form letter." It's pretty clear who Ken listens to, though he is miles better than Julia.

Per the instructions

On the tn.gov website, there are guidelines for writing to your representative. I even went so far as to propose plausible, realistic solutions to the hiccup in the code. Without going into great detail, I am pretty sure the GA didnt intend for it to be used to attack families, which is exactly how 36-1-202 and the repeal (36-2-202) has been manipulated and used against my family. And- with this use, will now make one of my children a burden to the state, whereas she has not been to date, as my husband and I both work and are WAY over income for benefits. (and no, I am not referencing foster care. My children are healthy, happy, and well cares for). So this is more than a personal problem. The lack of action, or even a response, will now unnecessarily burden the tax payers more so than they already are. I thought the economy was a top priority?

She spoke with WVLT

The only reason the story from WVLT did not air is due to an internal policy of not showing a youtube video which has been pulled by the owner.

The reported at WVLT did speak with Rep Hurley before she (Hurley) was aware the hunt was on for the "why did you do that to Pepper"questions...

It was only after she received a call from WVLT that Rep Hurley pulled the youtube video and avoided other interviews.

That's the facts!

And, let's be thankful the

And, let's be thankful the dog didn't wiggle out and fall on the roadway.

Hmm

The gentleman holding the poor dog looks a lot like a new member of the Harriman City Council.

Church giggles

The two in the vehicle certainly had the 'church giggles' and it is a good thing Hurley did not wreck and the dog was not dropped.

Foolish

Woman is Hurley

No telling who the man is and it will never be known. The woman talking is Hurley and I really doubt she was not driving yet the voice is hers!

Hope CNN, MSNBC, and/or Leno gets wind of this ... kind of like those silly Swamp People type shows which depict Southern people as rednecks. This is an absolute continual bad choice of 'personal' judgement calls by Rep Hurley.

To this point, it is almost as if she has an entire lifetime closet of silly episodes...

But her voting record...sick of hearing that. Another person of dignity can place great votes without the ridiculous personal actions.

Maybe we should start a

Maybe we should start a letter campaign to the Governor's Highway Safety Office. Maybe they can talk some sense into her.

Oh No--- Pepper a liberal?

This is a great link.

Kent Calfee couldn't hire

Kent Calfee couldn't hire better campaign fodder than the Scene is providing for free. I think some augmented Hooters are being laughed at around the state.
