Watch all the way through. It's worth it, even on dialup. At the end, Rachel Maddow ties the stories together to make a powerful point. This could happen here.

There are things I want to say, but others before me have said them better.

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves." -- William Pitt, 1783 ((link...))

"First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me--
and there was no one left to speak out for me."
-- The Reverend Martin Niemöller, a pastor who spent seven years in a concentration camp ((link...)).

"...Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." -- Matthew 25:40 ((link...))

Any school that ENCOURAGES teen pregnancy should be closed!

This school ENCOURAGES teen pregnancy. It should be closed. What about the discrimination of the kids that are not pregnant????

School attempts to mitigate the disaster of teen pregnancy

The main point of the story is that the locals want the school to stay open, while the state-appointed dictator doesn't, and he does not have to listen to the locals.

About teen pregnancy: do not be quick to judge the girls. Almost two-thirds (approximately 62%) of the fathers are adults, not teens. Many of the pregnancies are the result of statutory rape.

About half the girls also experienced birth control sabotage. Many of the girls were previously abused and 11-20% violently raped. About 60% had "unwanted sexual experiences."

See: (link...)

These girls need society's help, not the door of education slammed in their faces. And the money spent will save society from even larger later expense.

There might not be so many teen mothers if the full range of women's health services were readily available (and if adult males stopped impregnating the girls).

I hope people will have a heart instead of condemning these girls and their school.

Also, to be fair to other students, society should improve their schools, not close down a good one.

Your right. Everyone is victim! It's not there fault.

This is the biggest problem with America today! Everyone is a victim. There is no more accountability. It's always someone elses fault. Give me a break! You can always find a stat to favor your view. Go to a local highshool and talk to the pregnant girls. You will find the male in the school as well in 9 out of 10 cases.

RL: Straw man

I did not say everyone is a victim. I do choose my words carefully. Someone who distorts the writing of another to raise up a straw man only loses the respect of others. Or did you misspeak? :)

Also, your 9-out-of-10 assertion is not at all in line with the studies I have seen. Please give references?

Great journalism

Too bad Maddow doesn't get more mainstream coverage. I agree 100% with OneT's commentary. Plus I loved what followed "There are things I want to say, but others before me have said them better."

I didn't see anywhere that the school encourages teen pregnancy. I'll also use what others have said before me better to explain what I saw in the video: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

The girls want to learn to help themselves, and they get handcuffed instead.

I just will never understand the mentality of those who object assisting poor minorities, then vote for candidates who pass legislation allowing banksters to bundle and leverage all of our (little peoples) home loans, student loans, 401K's, small investments, credit card debt, etc., by as much as 90% so the banksters can spend the often untaxed multi-million dollar profits to one-up each other on private jets, yachts, and second and third vacation homes.

Worse yet, once the banksters realized their unadulterated greed distracted them from reinvesting the profits into their too-big-to fail companies, and the result of their multi-million dollar spending spree destabilized our national, and even the international economy, they used our tax dollars to get bailed out. That's right, bailed out because all they had left was paper and if not bailed out, they would have to take our (little peoples) investments, and call all our debt due. So we bail them out, vote for them again, and judge poor black girls in Detroit.

In my opinion, it's one of the biggest hoaxes ever played in the history of our country on the middle class by the super wealthy.

It's a rich man's government, and yet many Americans ask the poorest to pay the price. Not sure how they sleep at night, except that they probably don't know any better. Another example of how our education system has failed us.

I digressed too much. Sorry.

Thanks for sharing OneT!

Grasshopper

Thank you! :)

And I really liked your "digression." :)
