Last night and this morning we had some rural fun. It became increasingly evident that something had inconveniently gone on to its maker under our porch. [I am sure it was even more inconvenient for the 'possum.]

It was an obviously unpleasant job getting the rather high remains out from under the low wooden walkway, then buried in the woods. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Jody Daniels of S & J Handyman Service of Rockwood.

Life goes on (except for the 'possum).

Helpful Neighbor, Part 2: Honey bees too

The same day as the 'possum incident, we discovered a swarm of "thousands of honey bees" under the eaves of our cabin. Farmer Leaf was duly called. He came to the rescue in full beekeeper regalia.

The heat of the day had agitated the bees, so after a few trips up a ladder and a few stings, Farmer Leaf decided to bring an empty hive over, bait it with a little wax and honey, and wait for the bees to calm down and maybe move in. He also sprayed the bees with a mist of water mixed with a little honey. He said that calms them so they stop chasing people and instead lick each others' wings. :)

Both my visiting brother and the helpful handyman will have stories to tell of being repeatedly chased down the lane by overheated bees. The bees chased alone, though, not in groups. Fortunately the fellows weren't stung.

Farmer Leaf came over again last night and early this morning to check on the bees and help move things along. Now, on the morning after, we're waiting for the queen to move into the hive.
