I wish we had good baseline data from before the spill of metals and other contaminants in fish. We know better than to eat anything out of the lake anyway. This is a shame. Watts Bar is really productive with something like 40 world record fish to its credit.

At this point I am more concerned with the ecosystem as it relates to fish, birds and other wildlife, and I look forward to seeing the TWRA results. If anything in this state gets attention it will be knowing that the largemouth bass are safe to torture and release.

Bottom Line

tva introduced toxic chemicals into the lake they were not thier before.so how are the drinking water levels fine.thats bs!wonder who is pulling the samples if you know what your doing you can pull clean samples!

Well, sir...

There have been about 4 different labs doing the analysis, including at least one totally independent lab (in Maryville, I believe). Their results have been the same. Results have been consistent from one lab to the other.

I'm sorry to break this to you, Bones, but not everybody in the whole damn world beside you is "corrupt!" If you are so educated about all lab procedures, why in hell aren't YOU down there pulling the samples and running the lab? What precisely are YOUR qualifications to condemn all the lab results? Besides all the external water testing, the water processing plants (like Kingston) are still doing all their own analyses to make sure the water they're putting out is OK. Or are you accusing them of being corrupt, too?

RB

Hmmm...RB

Haven't we had problems with falsified data from our local treatment facilities?

In the past, WC, in the past

So - am I hearing accusations of corruption in the water testing being done by the Kingston Water Treatment Plant or am I not? If so what is the evidence? Where's the beef? Where's the substance? Or accusations about some other water treatment plant?

Is there medical evidence or scientific evidence of local water treatment plants lying about their water analysis? If so let's see it. If not, let's chill. Wild accusations that point everywhere and nowhere in specific do NOBODY any good and only fan the fire. Is that really what we need?

BTW - how come the ability to edit one's own previous posts only minutes after they're made has gone away?

RB

Now don't go off, RB

I believe the data falsification was fairly recent, like in the last few years and has nothing whatsoever to do with the current event. I put it off to incompetence more than corruption at the time.

At this very moment, I would bet my big toe on the thoroughness of our testing. Our water has never been tested as much or as well.

I still see the edit tab but I'll look into it. Thanks for bringing it up.

Thanks!

Well, I just found out something, WC. The "edit" tab goes away if one is using Firefox as a browser. It's there using IE.

RB

Well, your reply cause me to do some checking...

... The recent falsification uncovered and dealt with was at Rockwood's SEWER plant, not anybody's water plant.

RB

There were contaminants in

There were contaminants in the lake prior to the current spill. The original big flow was from the containment pond breach on White Oak Creek in the fifties.

Exactly so, WC

And those contaminants have been handled by the water treatment process for years.

One thing that is interesting is that water samples at the INTAKES of Kingston have by and large (there have been exceptions) have been meeting standards for DRINKING (i.e. treated) water even prior to being treated. These results have been pretty consistent.

I think your point is important for folks to realize and remember in this instance: it has been inadvisable to eat fish from or drink from the general Watts Bar bodies of water for YEARS, and that's nothing new. And it resulted from the stuff you're mentioning at Oak RIdge rather than the Kingston Steam Plant.

RB

what about the ORNL study on this?

(link...) I have a hard time reading this print but I am sure I linked from this site to a long study on the fish of Watts Bar lake.

Bones. I don't know where your comment went if it was posted correctly. Try it again. As long as there aren't any personal attacks, dis or mis information, I leave them up...Even sometimes when they go after me personally.

There is flyash floating on

There is flyash floating on top of the water on Watt's Bar lake and there have been some of those floating containment yellow things placed in some of the coves several miles down River Road. They are visible from the highway.
