Council members Kevin McClure and Brant Williams have called a second special emergency meeting of the Kingston City Council in order to follow up on the council meeting held on December 28, 2008 when TVA President Tom Kilgore met with citizens and council to answer questions regarding the TVA fly ash spill.
In addition to items from the Council’s regular monthly workshop, this meeting is set to allow council to address the following items.
A. Discussion and possible action regarding authority of council members to make press releases on behalf of the City - Councilwoman DeVall
Note by Brant Williams: This appears to be an attempt by Councilwoman DeVall to prevent council members from communicating with or transmitting information to the press and constituents regarding the fly ash spill, water test data, and/or individual councilmember’s opinions on the impact of the fly ash spill on the community and its economy.
B. Discussion and possible action regarding the City not receiving water sample test results in the timeframe promised by TVA - Councilman Williams and Councilman McClure
C. Discussion and possible formulation of a plan of action addressing the TVA ash spill pertaining to the cleanup; safety of citizens; and economic impact including any action regarding these or any other matters relating to this event - Councilman Williams and Councilman McClure
D. Discussion and possible action regarding hiring a PR firm to begin assessing the impact of and dealing with the effects of the TVA ash spill on Kingston’s Image - Councilman Williams and Councilman McClure
E. Discussion and possible adoption of an official position regarding the public meeting planned by Erin Brockovich and the two law firms she represents - Councilman Williams and Councilman McClure
As with all meetings of City government, the public is welcome and will be allowed to address council on any topic pertaining to items on the agenda. Items not on the agenda may not be addressed without consent of the full council.
Thank you
Brant Williams – Member Kingston City Council
