Well, Jack lost the race. But I hope he won't stay away from future races.

On a personal level I agree with Jack on some things and I disagree with him on some things. But he ran a totally clean race. He ran an informative race - we all knew pretty clearly what Jack stands for and what we could expect out of him. He's a stable person who is a real servant - and this can be seen in the way he's lived his life, not just in what he says. I beleve he DOES care about people the way he says he does, and that's because actions speak louder than words; he's been directly involved in things that SHOW he cares.

Volunteers with the West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department (Link...) will hold a boot drive on October 27 starting at 9 AM. They hope to raise funds for local activities of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). All monies raised will benefit our area.

West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual "elegant junk" yard 'sale' at Station 1 on Pumphouse Road near Rockwood on May 3, 4, and 5 (Thursday through Saturday) from 8:00 AM on Thursday (7:00 AM Friday and Saturday) all day until dark.

The Tennessee Eagles RC/Aircraft Club took to the air Saturday over the old Harriman drag strip location. It was the club's "Open Fly" event and many flyers were on hand.

Mark your calendars for June 30th when they will hold the Annual TERC Warbird Event!

That's right, it's almost time for spring and summer's annual "Cruisin' In Harriman" event!

The event is held the 2nd Saturday of each month, April through August.

The event begins with Roane Street in Harriman being shut down at 2PM. Then the streets open for great fun at 2:30 until 5:30.

I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but Saturday was my first visit to the Tennessee Eagles R/C Field. I was amazed out what a beautiful area the club has to fly its radio controlled airplanes! The 600-foot green landing strip looked so beautiful against Saturday's blue sky.

Please make checks payable to Roane County Parks. Booth space is $25 per 10’x10’ space. Vendors must provide their own set up equipment, electricity is very limited. You will need to supply your own extension cords. Setup is 8am to 10am; vendors must remain set up and open till 3pm. Home sales consultants will be limited to one per company. Consultants are welcome to work together and split a booth.

On December 10th Roane County Park will host a winter 5k race, “Dashing thru the Park.” It is our goal to promote fitness and community involvement in our park.

Please share the attached registration with you friends, family and co-workers. We have a 5k for runners and a 1-mile walk for everyone else. All pre-registered participants will receive an event t-shirt.

You can sign up with the attached form or on active.com. Forms can be mailed or dropped off at Roane County Park at the cottage!

“Dashing thru the Park 5k” begins and ends in Beautiful Roane County Park. The race course is an USATF-certified 5k course.

Pre-registration closes on Tuesday December 6, 2011. The registration fee is $25 in advance and $30 on race day. Runners & walkers must sign-in before the race. Pre-registered runners and walkers will receive t-shirts on race day. Late or race day participants will receive shirts while supplies last.

The awards ceremony will be held in Shed number 6, 30 minutes after the last runners finish. Awards will be given to the top over all male and female, plus the top male and female, in the following age groups, 10 and under, 11 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59 and 60 plus, (top male & female not eligible for division awards.)

Leashed pets are welcome for the 1-mile fun walk only. Owners must clean up after pets.

Show your support for our park and enjoy a fabulous December afternoon by the lake.
