Roane County's Jim Henry is New Head of Department of Children's ServicesSubmitted by WhitesCreek on February 6, 2013 - 7:46am.
To say the DCS is scandal plagued would be charitable. The deaths of over thirty children would be a national tragedy in any scenario, normally. But since they were under Tennessee state supervision at the time it has taken the efforts of activists to get this on the radar screen. DCS has been stonewalling investigations to the point of refusing to provide FOI documents to newspapers without exorbitant fees (over $50,000.00 in the most recent case). Let's hope Jim Henry can make a difference.

Please speak up for those with no voices, our abused children. As a child advocate and former CASA volunteer in Roane County, I have witnessed the DCS, in complicity with office of juvenile court in Roane County, grant visitation rights to known, repeated child abusers. Anderson County DCS and court officials have also sent already abused children back to their abusers for more brutal punishment. Indepedent investigations of DCS offices and juvenile court officials throughout Tennessee are needed to root out corrupt officials and prosecute judicial misconduct. The press, for the most part, has been reluctant to investigate the powerful and well-connected DCS and judicial fiefdoms, especially in Roane and Anderson counties. The rule of law and due process seem to be antiquated notions in many juvenile court hearings.
Most of the damage to children is being done on the local level, not just with high-level state appointees.
