So if you are a musician and you've played Merlefest, Bonnaroo, the Ryman, the Grand Old Opry, Telluride, and some others, where on your bucket list do you rank having dinner with Elvis Costello and then opening for him? I guess that's a good problem for Daniel Kimbro to have. Daniel has played with a ton of great singers and songwriters, like RB Morris, Maggie Longmire, the Lovell Sisters, Brendan James Wright, and on and on. The Kimbro family band, Mountain Soul, has to rank right up there as the tightest of the lot. We heard Daniel and brother Corey with the rest of Mountain Soul at the recent Hippie Jack's Americana festival and were blown away. To say they tore it up is like calling hurricane Sandy a rain storm,...something of an understatement.
Here's one of my favorite Daniel Kimbro compositions, with Cory on mandolin, and Jonathan Maness on guitar. It hits close to home for those of us in Roane County.
Daniel and Cory Kimbro will be with us this Friday night, Nov. 2 at Market Street. This is going to be good!

Here's a shot of Daniel taken when he was with Maggie Longmire at Market Street. Ask anybody who was there if that big dog house bass was smoking.

That's Cory at Hippie Jack's.

Here's some more Kimbro history:

Mountain Soul began as a family folk project in 1997 featuring Shawn, Amanda and Daniel Kimbro. Living room practice sessions evolved into local performances in and around East Tennessee. Soon Cory and Jacob Kimbro were drafted to play "tag team performance bass," and DJ Morrison of Greenville, TN joined on Mandolin and harmony vocals.

Fast-forward 14 years and Mountain Soul, still anchored by brothers Daniel and Cory Kimbro, features new interpretations of stories written by Shawn Kimbro, while Daniel has added his own tunes to the bands ever-evolving repertoire.

Door opens at 6, music at 7, we're done by 9:30.

BYOB and BYOF The kitchen is closed. A few folks are eating before they come, but most are bringing take out or pot luck.
