Roane County Parks Loses Tony Brown

Submitted by WhitesCreek on August 21, 2012 - 7:46pm.

That is a sad thing to learn for the Parks but the good news is that Tony, who makes the Energizer Bunny look like a slacker, has accepted a position in the County Road Department working for newly elected Road Supervisor, Dennis Ferguson.

I chatted with County Executive Ron Woody and found that he was setting the bar pretty high for Tony's replacement. He wants someone with a college degree in Parks and Recreation or some equivalent. I like what I'm hearing so far.

Oh

Oh, I am so very shocked...

From where I sit,

Tony Brown did a good job at Parks. He will be missed.

I have to agree with...

... the very positive assessments of the job Tony Brown has done. He has made that park a real draw for both visitors in the county and those considering moving here. His will be difficult shoes to fill.

From the budgetary standpoint, Mr Woody and the Commission will have to work hard on this replacement. Tony, relatiely speaking, made crap, and if they hold to the County Executive's desire for a college person, etc, they will have to PAY for it. Or risk getting someone who will be far less energetic than Tony.

My understanding is that is

My understanding is that is was the low pay in the park position that sent Tony to the Road Department, but that's second hand info so take it with a grain of salt. I do know that the Parks position in Kingston pays more than the County position, which is unusual though Rick Ross does an outstanding job in Kingston and does have the credentials. I don't know about Rockwood or Harriman.

From what info I have first-hand...

... that's exactly right, WC. Low pay in the park position, although he loved it and thrived in it, made a job with Dennis in the Road Department very attractive to Tony. Of course, it didn't hurt that Tony and Dennis go way back, have worked together in the Democratic Party for years, etc. They're pretty natural work-mates. I guess the extra dollars really made the move attractive. Can't blame him at all for moving up.

That position within the county pay structure really doesn't - at present - pay beans for what is essentially a dept head position.

That's too bad...

I hate to hear this as Tony did a terrific job of running the park. I walk there with my dog and to say the park is beautiful is an understatement. It will be hard to find someone to fill his shoes.

Tony Brown - An Awesome Job!

Great Job, Tony!

Good hire, Dennis!

Tony made a huge dufference

I have lived near the park now for nearly 10 years....what a difference....Tony has set an example of changing a littered neglected park into a beautiful, clean, welcoming community asset. These changes were initiated by Mike Farmer with strong follow through by Ron Woody and the current administration....Tony has been the example of hard working dedication... Tony should be on the committee to select his replacement.
