My favorite Vidal quote is not listed in he list of his many quotable remarks. The man could write. His book "Burr" was about Aaron Burr, a scoundrel with good intentions. To retire a few of his many debts, Burr decided to marry a well to do "Madame" and taking leave of his wedding night entourage said, "I retire to the hymeneal couch", a gross overstatement at best, but a great line.
A Vidal line that has made into the general lexicon is "A good deed never goes unpunished", though it is usually not stated quite that way.
There will be no more Vidal writings, and for that the word is a lesser place.

He had unique and special ways he could use words, for entertainment, for provocation of thought, for whatever he desired. A significant talent is now silenced. Thankfully, there ARE books! His death highlights how important an invention books (of all types) are.
