This is a really big deal and will ultimately tie everything together in the Big Bang /particle physics/why the Universe exists/other stuff I don't totally understand kind of way. It's sometimes called the "god particle" but nobody really means it like that. It's just that we wouldn't be here in our bodies made of elements formed in the fusion core of stars (Yes, we are all star People) reading stuff like this if the Higgs Boson particle (or a mathematical facsimile) didn't exist.
