Update: Jim Ryan's drawing two paychecks by holding two paid positions in Roane County has been deferred for one month while the state election commission gets an opinion from Attorney General. The law is pretty clear cut that you can't do that so why the delay? At least provide Roane County citizens with injunctive relief by making him take a leave of absence from both jobs. I someone asleep at the wheel herre?

... exactly what General Johnson said. Even people in the DA's office are allowed to be human. I've never seen anything out of Russell Johnson that would impugn his integrity as our DAG.
Because he questioned something election related, and asked for an answer about the matter? If that is the way it works, lots of people are going to get kicked off lots of commissions, boards etc.

Ryans is stretching my ability to believe he means well when he goes after the D A for something the D A didn't do and at the same time Ryans illegally holds two positions in government. At this point he should do the right thing and resign from both of them.
OK, I must have been asleep or missed something in the article. What two positions does Ryans hold? Election Commission and ?.
Hopefully he wasn't after D A as a D A, but looking at an employee's unwise actions. All public offices should be an open book.
Thanks, I just read the KNS article. Lesson learned. And yes, he should resign or be removed. As with Troy Beets, I think holding dual govermental committee/board etc is not a good thing. Even the fact that these positions probably will never cross paths, I still oppose it. There are plenty of others in Roane County that would serve if asked and could possibly be better suited to some of the positions. If memory serves me, Mr. Ryans was a commissioner on the very small Swan Pond Utility, which merged with HUB. No wastewater involved. I'm no expert, but I think there is a big difference in what comes in the house and what goes out of the house.

I dont think he can hold both of those positions at the same time. I think there was a ruling from TN's Attorney General at some point, but I am not sure of when or if it binding to the whole state. I guess, we will know after tomorrow. -Brian

I have no issue with an investigation being conducted if wrong doing took place. My issue is with Mr. Ryans' and his ethics. He is a member of the Election Commission and as such should not be actively involved in a campaign, particularly during elections. He wore Ms. Nelson's shirts. represented her at functions, displayed her signs and bumper stickers on his cars. He also openly wore another candidate's shirt at the Labor Day Festival in Harriman. I don't care who the candidate is Mr. Ryans should not be active in a campaign while serving on the Election Commission. No other Election Commission member engages in that kind of behavior and now HE is the one pushing for the investigation of unethical behavior. How can you respect someone who says one thing and does something else. The Good Book says, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Mr. Ryans' need to take a close look at his own ethics. He should let someone else on the Election Commission take the lead on the recent issue. Better yet it is obvious he wants to politic so he needs to get off the Election Commission. It is not a platform to push your political agenda but rather one where you are to oversee the ETHICS (which apparenlty he lacks) of our elections.
