Fathers' Day or Father's Day?Submitted by WhitesCreek on June 17, 2012 - 8:09am.
The original petition for the creation of this holiday called for "Fathers" Day. In the 1930's the lobbying effort was pushed by tie and tobacco pipe manufacturers, neither of which holds any interest for me. In the 1980's the Fathers' Council, a front group founded by the Associated Men's Wear Retailers, declared the day a second Christmas for manufacturers and retailers. As for me, nothing purchased will ever equal the hand scribbled card from the Granddaughter or the home made waffle with a side of bacon and cane syrup Mrs. Creek just set before me. Happy Day to all you Fathers out there. Hugs are the best present.
