Emory River Weir in Process of Being Removed

Submitted by WhitesCreek on March 19, 2010 - 9:10am.

The Roane Community Advisory Group toured the TVA disaster site yesterday. The changes and progress are noticeable and to be applauded. Clearing the Emory channel has resulted preventing a large amount of ash from being swept downriver into the Clinch and Tennessee rivers where it may not be able to be safely removed. The EPA states that only 5,000 cubic yards of ash was lost in the last high water event compared to 150,000 cyds May 4, 2009. Larger versions of additional photos are posted at the CAG Communications web site.

I do have one concern

The stripe bass usually feed in the swift waters at the Kingston Plant during February. Then they swim up the Emory River for spawning. How much did the disaster and dredging for the past two spawning seasons harm the reproductive cycle?
