Last night was our first "Toad Song"...I like the sound of that. For some silly reason it gives me great pleasure to hear them each spring. Such fat ugly things, they have a beautiful song. There aren't many more beautiful sounds in nature than a few hundred of these guys going off in a wetland.
Would love to, but somehow link doesn't work for me. It is surprising, though, that these creatures manage to survive and reproduce despite the pollution and habitat depletion! Where I live, some ponds have disappeared and so have the toads, but they seem to have found a spot in a river bend. Some 40 years later, I can hear their song again!

Amazing how many different species there are in TN. I'd love to be able to identify them. My wife already complains that I get distracted whenever a bird flies by, just imagine if you could drive around and sort out the various frogs by song...

In a lot of cases you have to know the song to tell what kind of frog or toad it is. Lots of them you'll never have the patience to see. Give a listen and you'll be surprised how quickly you learn the songs. Right now the chorus frogs and the American toad are the main ones so start there.
And tell your wife that you can't let life distract you from nature all the time. Wives are totally understanding about things like this, as I'm sure you've noticed.

Gotta Love the Frogs/Toads. Spring is springing!
Link doesn't work for me, either.
