Long Term Recovery CommitteeSubmitted by WhitesCreek on December 16, 2009 - 6:05pm.
EE/CA and CIP public comments are due Sunday but will be received on Monday. This is the most important decision that will be made on this project: What will the long term resolution and storage plan for the coal ash released in the disaster? 40 additional truck loads of rock per day will be brought to the site to reinforce Dike C. Craig Zeller, EPA, presented a powerpoint presentation on the heavy metals analysis which I will post as soon as I can. Update: This is now attached. Zeller was asked why fish samples which show 8 milligrams per kilogram were consedered safe for human consumption when the FDA state that the maximum allowable uptake of selenium from food should be 400 micrograms per day. This is a missed factor of three decimal places. I forwarded the FDA document to him that he was unaware of. The powerpoint shows analysis of the ash retreived from the river as having higher heavy metal content than the ash that was left in the pile that did not flow into the river. This called into question the accuracy of the analysis. A number of unexplainable data are seen in the report.

Steve McCracken of TVA expressed his opinion that our concerns are valid that the asthetic values of Swan Pond Road should be included as a consideration in the action alternatives in the clean up.
