Radioactive Waste in LandfillsSubmitted by Roanehunter on October 15, 2009 - 1:11pm.
The DOE plans to send waste into TN landfills from states who's citizens do not want the waste buried in their or DOE landfills in that State. Why is Tennessee the dumping ground for millions of pounds of radioactive waste? Are'nt we doing enough to help by processing the waste, why for $0.015 per pound do we risk the health of this state? The waste entering landfills in this state is checked by the company that accepts the waste from out of state. There is little if any analysis performed and they can mix high level wastes in with low level wastes as long as it meets the levels on paper. If the Midtown landfill becomes able to accept the fly ash then it can accept radioactive waste also. Should'nt someone be concerned?
