I don't like anything that misleads people into making decisions based on a false premise. Regardless of who you support for President,(RoaneViews is is a Progressive Web site so my personal choice should be obvious) you should make your case to your friends based on facts and truth and not slander and smear.

Have YOU noticed fewer speeding tickets?

“There could be many reasons for the slight decline that have absolutely nothing to do with gas prices,” Browning wrote in an e-mail. “Activity is often influenced by manpower availability, training, court time, special assignments, etc.”

I would like to see RCN do a similar comparison on the City Police ticket rate. That would be more interesting. Driving through Rockwood yesterday, I think I counted four Police cars from the City limit south of town on 27 to the City Limit at Lowe's. I think they were after "evildoers".

We just had a burger lunch with Bob Alford at his new Kingston location. I predict this will be a successful venture for him. The temptation of a Bob's Burger and a picnic table by the lake is too much to resist.

Is it me, or do Bob's burgers taste better when they come from a tiny little building set off all by itself? (Folks who remember the taste of a burger from the original Midtown location will know what I mean)

Two Rockwoodians were in Knoxville driving around, got themselves all shot up, and then drove to Clinton because they weren't sure where a hospital was located in Knoxville? They had cellphones and could conceivably have dialed 911 but they didn't think that was good idea.

Ohh..Kay!

We continue to see the case made for doing away with the sunshine laws in Tennessee:

"The moral of the story is pretty simple," Robinette's attorney, Gregory P. Isaacs, said Tuesday. "If you don't want the public to see your records, don't take a check from the county."

This is not a cut and dried situation here, but the cell phone in quesion was actually in the County's name, not Teresa Kirkham's. That puts a whole new spin on it.

Roane County agreed this morning in the lawsuit filed by Steve Robinette to produce Theresa Kirkham's cell phone records. Greg Isaacs, a prominent Knoxville attorney, appeared on behalf of Mr. Robinette. There may be some qualifications to the agreement, and I am sure it will be reported further in tomorrow's Roane County News.

After several years of planning, Roane County will fund a county fire department.

Commissioners gave their final approval Monday night.

The county fire department will provide fire protection alongside five current volunteer fire departments.

Hello Readers, Another column this week using the "hunt and peck" system since my right hand and forearm are still in a cast. It is so aggravating since, if I may say so myself, I am a pretty fast typist. Oh well, another couple of weeks. It don't stop me from using the "remote" on the television though. Lots of days, when I can find the time, I will slip one of RHS reunion DVDs in the old DVD player, and drift back to our school days. It is a real pleasure seeing the smiles on our classmates faces as they see their "ole" classmates, some for the first time in fifty years or so. It is coming up again June 8 thru June 14, 2008, right around the corner.

DAR Tree on I-40

OneT,

When I was driving by tonight I stopped and took a couple pics with my phone. I'm no photographer, so I apologize for the poor quality. Hopefully, the image will upload. I couldn't get it to upload on the original thread, so maybe the site manager will forgive me :)

Nine weeks ago a fire reduced New Midway Baptist Church to ruins, forcing members to hold all services since then in the old sanctuary.

On Sunday morning, the congregation held a lunch for the crews that helped battle the fire’s 50 foot high flames and heat so intense it melted the siding of buildings 30 feet away.

A train leaves Phoenix bound for Tucson at 60 miles an hour. Another train leaves Tucson bound for Phoenix 10 minutes later traveling at 50 miles per hour. Given that it is 110 miles in between, how far apart will the two trains be when they meet?

I've always had a problem with the term "Highest and Best Use." It really means "How can we get the most money for this property?"

There are very few protection mechanisms that exist to protect the very few large tracts of land left in East Tennessee. I hope that the folks who own some of what's left can find it in their hearts to save some of it from house by house by house development. High density PUD developments with large green spaces may be the only way.

Here's a 1200 acre farm ready to be chopped up.

OK, This one is a classic so you have to point out the fallacy for us.

Three business executives eat lunch in a restaurant. They estimate that the bill should come to $30. They split the bill 3 ways and pay 10 dollars each. When the actual bill comes, it is $25. Since this is not divisible by three, they each take a dollar back and leave the extra two dollars tip for the waiter. Since each paid nine dollars and nine times three is 27, plus two for the waiter is 29.

Where did the other dollar go?

Rep. Lincoln Davis, D-Tenn., who has been critical of other superdelegates who publicly have endorsed candidates, said he intends to stick to his pledge of staying uncommitted until the Democratic National Convention in Denver this August.

Rep. Davis has said that superdelegates, the nearly 800 party insiders and elected officials who are given votes at the nominating convention, were created in order to help the party decide close races. Therefore, they should keep their options open as long as possible, he said.

“The (Democratic National Committee) granted (us) delegate status with the belief that we should wait till the convention, and I plan on keeping with that belief,” he said.

Today we learn that Oak Ridge is looking at installing cameras at Traffic Lights, and that there are traffic engineers who want to do away with as many traffic lights as they can. They say Fewer Lights = safer roads.

I know some of these concepts have been proposed in Roane County but were dismissed out of hand. Maybe we should take another look.

Critical Thinking is simply the Scientific method applied to life. In this political season, we need to put emotions aside and make a rational decision, but of course it is the nature of politics to prevent rational decisions at all cost. Learning to think critically can be fun, though. Rather than throw out the rules and methods, let's just play some games.

Try this brain teaser...

This Saturday is National Trails Day and there are tons of places to hike in East Tennessee. You can find the State Natural areas and tons of other stuff Here.

I wish Roane County would get more interested in hiking trails. We have some great areas but they tend to be over run by ATVs which make them unsuitable for everyone else.
