Well, it was close, but not close enough. The Creative Arts Co-op will have to wait another day (June 3rd) to debut their brand of comedy at Smokies Stadium. The original show date was June 2 - with the Smokies battling Jackson, but excessive rain and storms caused unsafe conditions on the field and the game was re-scheduled to tomorrow night (Monday, June 3). Monday night's battle will now be a double header against Jackson with the Creative Arts Co-op entertaining crowds during the second game. The show, you ask? 'Take 'Em Out at the Ballgame!'

I rarely, if ever, comment on politics as there is no 'right' answer, but here is an incident I observed this weekend... My group hosted a booth at the United Way Family Fun Day at RSCC, and candidates were visiting the booths asking for votes along with visitng families. Several asked if I lived in Roane County before shaking my hand. One made a few comments about supporting the arts in other counties. But one candidate took the cake... the candidate entered my booth, verified my residency, shook my hand, and asked for my vote. One of our high school performers was also in the tent at the time. The candidate extended a hand - then asked if the student was old enough to vote. When the student said 'no', the hand was withdrawn.

The student may not be able to vote yet, but his parents can. He or she is still a part of our community. They are sitting in our schools, working in our towns, volunteering in our causes - they are the future of Roane County. And the student wasn't worth a hand shake.

The candidate observed was an incumbant.

As an elected public servant, do you work for all the residents of Roane County or only those who can do you a favor?

The Creative Arts Co-op has reached a milestone - double digits. The Co-op is celebrating 10 years of the arts in Roane County. What began as a few scattered classes throughout the county has grown into a 100 seat performing arts center with ongoing arts classes for the young and the young-at-heart.

Sixteen students representing four high school and the home school community took the stage for two weekends of high-energy fun.
